One Month Old

March 10, 2008 9:04 am

Jack is already over a month old! He weighed 10 pounds and 13 ounces when we took him to the doctor last week Thursday. He is outgrowing all his clothes! He is such a sweet baby. He is especially happy in the morning, and loves to give smiles.

Levi had another fun snow day! We actually had a few inches! It wouldn’t stick to make a snowman, but Levi was just as happy to shovel and rake the snow! After about 30 minutes though, he told us “I am tired and need to go inside to rest a while” :) I think it took longer to get him dressed to go outside than we actually were outside! It was fun anyway!

Our house is coming along. The brick and vinyl are almost complete. The drywall is hung and drying. Donald will paint sometime soon, and then he will put the floors in. There are new pictures in the March album!

Jack - 3 weeks & Levi playing in the snow

February 27, 2008 3:24 pm

Jack had his 3 week check-up yesterday. The little porker is already 10 lbs & 1 oz! He has been spitting up quite a bit & gave us scare the other night when he seemed to get choked on his spit. We now have him on Zantac & have already seen an improvement.

He is sleeping longer at night (yeah! for mommy!) & no longer has episodes of labored breathing. He already is trying to hold his head up when on his belly & during awake time is extremely active! So besides alittle reflux, he is perfectly normal, healthy, & BIG! :)

Levi woke up this morning to a fun surprise - SNOW! We bundled up quickly to go play in it (because it always melts as quick as it comes) He had so much fun “digging” & “plowing” in the snow! We made a little snowman for him, but when we went to grab the camera - he had already taken the snowman’s head off and put it in the back of his tricycle!!! Go figure- what a boy!

Funny story from this afternoon - when I took Levi out of the bath - he was very upset to see his fingers all wrinkled ( he was in the bath quite a long time) - and kept crying and asking me to make them (the wrinkles) go away! Life is never boring!!!!!

Enjoy the new pictures in the February album & Jack’s 3 week album!

2 weeks old

February 20, 2008 6:59 pm

Hard to believe that Jack has been here already for 2 weeks!  Time flies when you are taking care of 3 boys! :)  Levi is adjusting so well to having Jack home.  He has been battling a nasty cold for the last few weeks, hopefully the antibiotic he just took will help knock it out.  Jack is a good baby.  He has his “fussy time” from 8-11 pm which is not so bad, Levi is usually in bed and Donald & I can take turns holding & cuddling with him.  Our house is coming along.  Donald worked on the heating & air yesterday.  The brick is up & the siding should go up soon.  We will post some new pictures of the house later this week.

I put some pictures up in the gallery.  They are in the February album.

One big happy family

February 13, 2008 12:12 pm

Just wanted to let everyone know that we are doing well! Levi is adjusting great to being a big brother. He really seems to enjoy “helping” when he can. Jack is a good baby. He has his time when he has a little temper :) but is easily consoled. We are thoroughly enjoying just being at home, and getting use to having 2 little boys. I (Judith) am feeling a whole lot better, and will be glad when I am completely recovered.

Enjoy some of the new pictures in the gallery!

Jack’s Doctor Visit

February 11, 2008 2:58 pm

Jack had his newborn recheck today and everything looked great. He continues to breathe rapidly, but the doctor thinks he may have slightly premature lungs (hard to believe on a 9 lb baby!) but within the next few days we should see an improvement. He currently weighs 8lbs. 13 oz.

Our first night at home with Jack was very easy. It took us an hour to wake him up for one of his feedings (he needed to eat it had been 5 hours!!!) We were a little concerned with his breathing around 1am so we stayed up 30 min. and watched him and counted his respirations, but he seemed to calm down. We elevated his mattress and he slept for 4 hours till we changed his diaper.

Levi comes home tonight! We can’t wait to have our little buddy back. He has done amazing being away from daddy & mommy (especially mommy)! Last night he thought he was big stuff laying on Opa’s pillow (while Opa is in Haiti).

Thank you for all the calls, visits, & prayers! We are so thankful to be at home & for yet another precious gift from God.

(Jack’s first bath pictures are in the gallery)

Finally at Home

We are finally at home. It feels so good to sit on the couch. I look forward to sleeping in my own bed. The fold out chair at the hospital was not working out very well. Thank you for the visits and flowers. A special thank you to Uncle Jim for coming all the way from Indiana to see Jack.

Judith is feeling good. Jack is great. The kid eats like nobodies business. He doesn’t mess around you would think he was in a race. But once he is full he is done and asleep.

Good News!

The Doctor had told the nurses to take the oxygen away slowly throughout the day, but his stats did not do very good when they lowered the oxygen. When the doctor came back last night she asked why the oxygen had not been lowered. Of course the nurses explained. The doctor took the oxygen tubes out of his nose and said ” lets see what happens”. He did great. They took the oxygen off completely. Later when we stopped by to see him the nurse let us hold him. We had not been able to hold him for almost 2 days. Because the oxygen was off we were able to hold him for 30 minute. It was great. He was able to take his sunglasses of and look around. Because he is still jaundice he has to stay on the lights so we can not hold him very long.

This morning he was still doing good. They gave him 2ml of sugar water by mouth. He gulped it down. Because he did so well the doctor said they could try a whole bottle of breast milk. He did very good with that also. Although he is doing better they want to keep him one more day, and Judith’s doctor said she could stay also.We will hopefully be able to keep him in the room and hold him more. Lord willing we will be able to take him home tomorrow.

Not as bad as it looks.

Unfortunately not much has changed since the last post. They tried to take him off of the oxygen last night but he did not do very well with out it. They are going to try to take it away today a little at a time. He did cough some stuff up so that is good. The goal is to take him off oxygen if his breathing is still good without it he can try to eat if he eats they can take the IV out. Once the IV is out he can probably come out of the nursery. We still have not heard back from the blood test we hope to hear something this morning.

He is jaundice so they have him under the lights. They have one under his bed that he lays on and one above him. The mask is to cover his eyes from the light.

Judith is doing good she may have the option to come home today if she feels good, but they did say that usually today is the most painful for the mother after Csection . Most likely Jack will not be able to go home today so we will probably stay until Saturday.

Thank you for your prayers. I have put more pictures in the gallery. Once we are able to get him out of the nursery I’m sure we will have many more up.

Jack is Here! (9.37 , 21.25)

February 7, 2008 8:38 am

levi and jackWhat a exciting day. We guessed when he would come and I said (I is Donald) 11:45. He came at 11:44. Judith did very well through the day. The Doctor came in around 11am to break her water. He check and she was at an 8, I am told we are going for a 10. After checking he did an ultrasound, from that he could tell that Jack was breeched ( coming out backward). So we decided to have a Csection. Judith did very good we were a little scared but it went well, and Judith is recovering nicely. Because Jack was a Csection and breech he had some fluid on his lungs. They seemed to keep him much longer than we remembered them keeping Levi, but we were able to hold him until 6:30pm. At that time the nurses change shift took him back to the nursery. At the nursery they noticed he was belly breathing. The did an x-ray and blood work and found that he had fluid on his lungs and elevated white blood cells. They put an IV in and oxygen along with an antibiotic. Because he is hooked up we have to leave him in the nursery. He has to stay a minimum of 48 hours and if the blood comes back as a positive for infection he will have to stay 7days. Please pray that the blood work is fine. If everything goes well we will all go home on Saturday. He is very content but active. We are so blessed to have a healthy baby and praise God for his hand of protection through the delivery. I will only update the blog once a day so check back tomorrow for updates.

Thank you for your prayers.
